Wild..Life in the Tropics

Hello!  Ya don't see this every day...unless you  live in a climate where parrots can sit on your shoulder and go on an outing in Coconut Point Shopping Center!  The guy was a character , too!Birds in this area  are amazingly unafraid.  They will walk right up to you if you are quiet and still. This is a White Ibis.
An enormous Egret!  He slowly and very gingerly took steps around the pond!
Below is a Gopher tortoise I found at the edge of the road.  She has 2 large cracks in her shell, so I took her to the Conservancy of Southwest Florida's wildlife rehabilitation Center.  Gopher tortoises are on the endangered species list and are protected. Their burrows,  which can serve as homes  for other small animals , are vital to the delicate  wildlife balance in the area.   I joined the Conservancy! As I am an avid Nature girl(kindred spirit Anna!) it is a dream come true to be in such a fantastic natural environment. Snakes, lizards, frogs, fish, birds..you name it! And they can all be found in the backyard..wheeee!
Bougainvillea..... incredibly bee u tiful and growing everywhere.  Hot colors that seem to defy reality!

  4. That's looks like a Quaker parakeet, even though it's almost as big as a conure. I didn't know they'd taken root at Coconut Point. We have a couple of thriving colonies here on the Cape. Email me! I know a whoopie spot where the margaritas are cold and the waiter's hot.
